Film Review: Wonder Woman 1984 – 4/10

‘You don’t ever have to make a wish for me to love you...’

I recently had a conversation about Chris Pine and concluded that he is the worst of the Hollywood Chrises (behind Hemsworth, Pratt and Evans) and that pretty much sums up this entire movie. Mediocre across the board. I can’t take Gal Gadot seriously anymore after that preposterous Imagine video and the scenes in which she does her sped up running in this movie look suitably ridiculous. The 1980s setting offers absolutely nothing new to the franchise and is quickly dispensed with after the first few minutes. Kristen Wiig is miscast as Diana’s fellow scientist friend Barbara Minerva with only Pedro Pascal coming out of this thing with any credit with a wacky performance as Maxwell Lord – the big bad.

More than anything else, Wonder Woman 1984 is further proof that the difference between the output of the DCEU and the MCU has never been more stark (excuse the pun). This a boring, chaotic mess that should mark the end of the Wonder Woman character entirely. And while I know I can normally crank out at least three paragraphs per review of this shit, I’ve really got nothing else to say here. It’s a bad movie. Miss it.
