‘I didn’t know how to get home…’

From is an odd puzzle box of a show that pulls from Lost, The X-Files and the work of Stephen King to form something pretty singular. While the first two seasons had their moments, there is no denying that From has not been in a rush to reveal the answers to any of the various mysteries that it has posed. Well, that all changes in season three…
Season three begins with Tabitha in the outside world, trying to make sense of what is happening in the nightmarish town in which the rest of her family are still trapped. Meanwhile, Boyd is struggling to keep it together in the face of a food shortage and the night creatures still trying to brutally murder everyone. By the end of the season, Boyd is forever changed, having been forced to watch while the creatures tortured and murdered Tian-Chen and Tabitha (along with Jade) discovers that she is the reincarnation of Victor’s mother. The big addition in terms of characters is Victor’s father, Henry, who is dragged into his son’s world by Tabitha (albeit accidentally).
After two absorbing but slow-moving seasons, FROM has now begun to hit its stride. We now have an origin story for the creatures (they traded their children for immortality), and we also find out who the creepy children are. What we still don’t know is how and why the townsfolk are chosen and why they can’t leave. With season four due to drop in 2026, FROM could well become a sleeper hit as people catch up with it in the coming months.
While season three still has its slow moments, when it’s good, it’s really good. It is undoubtedly the best season yet, and season four has the potential to be even more compelling.
